The Basque Country’s largest city is easily navigable on foot, with views from the centre of the lush green hills that surround it. The layout encourages ambling, and the array of pintxos at every bar encourage grazing.

For cultural sustenance, there’s no escaping the Guggenheim, and nor should there be, yet this extraordinary museum is far from Bilbao’s sole provider, nor is it the only example of architectural derring-do.
